The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds celebrates the year of the Queen’s Jubilee with a spectacular Elizabethan Jousting Tournament.
From Saturday 27 August to Monday 29 August the museum’s impressive jousting arena will resound to the cheers of the crowd and the clash of lances on armour as knights from across Europe battle it out. The twice-daily shows at 12pm and 3pm will feature knights in full armour and their horses, plus plenty of pomp and pageantry fit for Queen Elizabeth I herself, who will be in attendance with her courtiers when the brave knights compete for trophies and honours.
In addition to the spectacle of a Jousting Tournament fit for a Queen, the Royal Armouries will be celebrating the reign of Elizabeth I with a range of activities. Visitors will be able to see swordmasters compete to win the Queen’s favour in combat demonstrations, test their own skills in medieval archery and see real Blacksmiths at work.
The museum, located at Leeds Dock, is free to visit and has six galleries with over 4,500 objects on display showing how history, art and culture have been shaped by arms and armour.
