Award Winning Dance Artist Designs Christmas Showcase
Community Black Achiever Award winning Nillanthie Morton choreographs sell-out show for Leeds-based RJC Dance
An inclusive black dance organisation will showcase the work of award-winning Nillanthie Morton and their youth provision at their popular Christmas show. The event takes place on Friday, 13th and Saturday, 14th December at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Chapeltown, Leeds.
Councillor Eileen Taylor, Leeds’ first black Lord Mayor, will join the sell-out crowd on Saturday 14th December and give a closing address. The performance celebrates the work of RJC Dance youth provision, a group aged between 9 and 19, who have worked on the routines throughout the year.
RJC Dance recently won three awards at the city’s Black Achievers Wings Awards, including an Arts Award for Morton, who started out in RJC Dance Youth Provision.
Kathy Williams, RJC Dance Director and co-founder, comments:
“2019 has been a very successful year for RJC Dance, having won a number of awards, and this show will be a wonderful culmination of all that work. We are so thrilled to welcome Cllr. Taylor to our event as we celebrate all the talent and potential our community has to offer”.
The show will feature a range of dance styles and music. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, 98 Chapeltown Rd, Leeds LS7 4BH on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December 2018 from 7:30pm – 9:30pm.
