One of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world, Black Dyke Band brings Golden Swing to Morley Town Hall on Saturday 13 February as part of the prestigious Leeds Best of Brass 2015/16 Series.
Under the baton of Music Director Professor Nicholas J Childs, Black Dyke Band will perform Golden Swing favourites Mack the Knife, Opus One and I Only Have Eyes for You featuring soloists Dan Thomas (euphonium) and Adrian Hirst (bass trombone). The band will also perform Wheel of Fortune from the 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Shostakovich’s lively Festive Overture, the stunning hymn Abide with Me and Arban’s Variations on Tyrolea featuring a tenor horn solo by Jonathan Bates.
With over 160 years of rich musical heritage Black Dyke Band is the most successful contesting band in the world. The band won the European Championship thirteen times, most recently in 2015, the British Open no fewer than 30 times (most recently 2014) and the National Championships of Great Britain 23 times (most recently 2014). Under the inspirational leadership of Music Director Nicholas Childs, and through a unique partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, the band continues to be at the forefront of the development of the brass band movement. Black Dyke Band is also the most recorded band in the world, with over 350 recordings to date.
