Christmas comes early to the City Varieties when On Stage Productions proudly present their 8th Chris Fox memorial pantomime on Saturday 10th November with performances at 2.00pm and 7.00pm.
On Stage Productions is the production arm of the academy that Chris Fox founded nearly 20 years ago.
Chris was one of the UK’s most renowned professional pantomime dames and brought professional pantomime to the Civic Theatre, Leeds over 35 years ago. Known as Leeds ‘favourite pantomime dame’ he had learned his craft at an early age appearing as a boy actor on BBC Children’s Hour.
From then his journey included West End Musicals, Plays, T.V. and he was a member of the famous Black and White Minstrels, summer and pantomime seasons.
But it was as the later he was best known having appeared and learned his craft with some of the late great pantomime dames such as Nat Jackley and Norman Evans.
On Stage Productions stick rigidly to his format and use his scripts based on good old traditional pantomime. Chris believed pantomime was one of the first experiences that a child has of theatre and it should be a special one full of laughter and magic.
Dick Whittington is a traditional family pantomime filled with music and comedy and lots of audience partition and is guaranteed to appeal to both young and te not-so-young in heart.
Comdian Dale Ibbetson, making his sixth appearance with the company plays Idle jack and Richard Hunter is playing Fanny The Cook alongside a cast of pantomime favourites supported by students from On Stage Arts Academy.
So if you want to hiss the baddies, cheer the goodies, sing-long to your favourite pantomime songs and shout till you are hoarse, indulge yourself in some pre-Christmas spirit and book your seats now.
