FIRST EVER ETHICAL CHRISTMAS MARKET

Students of Leeds Beckett University put a stall in campus to sell tickets for Leeds’ first-ever ethical Christmas market

Festive fever has soared up with German Christmas Market in Leeds, but this year Leeds is also going to witness its first-ever ethical Christmas market – Winterfest – on November 22nd, Sunday at Leeds Town Hall. Students of Leeds Beckett came forward in support of Winterfest which is a 100% volunteer-run festival.

Winterfest, which is scheduled to happen at Leeds Town Hall, boasts of over 150 stalls selling vegan and ethical products, live music, movie screening, cookery demonstrations and children’s play area – perfect family day out. More than 2500 people have RSVPed for the event on Facebook.

Ethical shopping is on the rise in the UK. Sale of Fairtrade, locally sourced, organic, vegan and green products has witnessed significant increase in the UK. The trend has also influenced shopping for Christmas. Leeds is also home to many vegans. Leeds Beckett and Leed University have vegan societies who regularly organize events. A very active Facebook group by the name of ‘Leeds Vegans and Vegetarians’ has over 1,000 members.

The tickets to Winterfest Leeds are reasonably priced at £2 (free for under 16s) and can be bought at the door. For more information on Winterfest visit their Facebook page on https://www.facebook.com/UKWinterFest
