The British Street Food Awards are bringing their Scotland and the North heats to Leeds Dock for the 9th annual Waterfront Festival on 25th and 26th June. Taste, discover and vote for your street food favourites from a stellar line up of 15 different traders from cities across the UK, including Manchester, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Edinburgh.

Visitors to the Northern heats will sample quality street food made with passion and love. From 28-day aged flat-iron steak to smoked pulled pork and cider-glazed Yorkshire chorizo meat lovers will rejoice. Veggies are also in for a treat with proper wood-fired pizzas, Japanese soul food ‘braised aubergine donburi’ and dessert from the UK’s first crème brûlée van.

Tim Gee from Leeds Dock commented: “Right from the beginning of the UK’s street food scene, Leeds has stamped its reputation as the North of England’s centre for street food. It has everything from the regular street side vendors we have all come to know and love, to ground breaking concepts such as Trinity Kitchen.

“Having the opportunity to be a part of this year’s British Street Food Awards ‘Northern Heats’ is a no-brainer for Leeds Dock. Not only is it the UK’s most celebrated street food event, but it links in perfectly with our celebrations with the Leeds Waterfront Festival.

“Overall it’s set to be a jam-packed weekend with the Dragon Boat Race taking place on Saturday, as well as live street art and kids face painting. On the Sunday we will see the Yorkshire Water Polo knockout tournament and live music throughout the day, as well as the awards themselves.”

Richard Johnson, Founder of the British Street Food Awards added: “We’ve been involved with the Leeds food scene since opening the award-winning Trinity Kitchen two years ago. We fill it with the most innovative traders in the UK — the British Street Food Awards is all about finding them. The new bloods. We brought the Awards to Leeds two years ago, and it was like a massive talent show. With the public as the judges. I can’t wait to see what they make of this little lot!”

Visitors can come down to the heats from 10am till late on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June. Attendees will all be given a vote, and the winner (declared on Sunday afternoon) will go through to the British Street Food Awards Final in Birmingham on September 17/18.
