Are you ready to meet Rapunzel – the flame-haired hero of an exciting new reimagining of the classic children’s story?
With beautiful words by the former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, music by award-winning Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, costumes by renowned Game of Thrones designer Michele Clapton, and astonishing choreography by Liv Lorent MBE, this promises to be a must-see dance event for all the family.
Rapunzel, presented by leading dance theatre company balletLORENT, comes to the Courtyard at Leeds Playhouse from 5-6 April – a perfect Easter treat.
In this thrilling production, Rapunzel becomes trapped in the tower because her hair grows so long, keeping her beauty hidden from the outside world. A possessive Witch and her Creature friends are her only company until a Prince comes along, attracted by her sweet song.
Packed with passion, colour and vivid storytelling, this family-friendly fairytale adventure, narrated by leading actor Lesley Sharp brings together a group of world-class creative collaborators, stunning dancers and the musicians of Northern Sinfonia to transform a beloved story into an unmissable dance theatre event.
This production includes a community cast at each tour venue – including children from Richmond Hill Academy School in Leeds, and four babies and toddlers, aged 1-3, alongside their professional dancer mums. Liv Lorent, herself a mother of two, has specifically cast performers returning to work, ensuring her choreography takes into account the after-effects of pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.
