New Dawn Fades is the story of four lads who, inspired by the punk revolution, came together to form Joy Division.

This unique production places the band within the context of Manchester’s history, setting the scene for a fascinating look at the Joy Division story.

The legendary Anthony H Wilson – co-founder of Factory Records and founder & manager of The Hacienda nightclub – is played by Lee Joseph and shown in all his brilliant pretension. He guides the audience through the heart and soul of both the band and the City of Manchester, interviewing an array of historical figures along the way – Johnny Rotten, Karl Marx and Buzzcocks all feature.

The band themselves are set in stone in their roles; Hooky is the thug with a heart of gold; Barney insecure and arty; Steve; shy and quiet; Ian Curtis the romantic dreamer.

With a backdrop of domestic drudgery and greyness and live performances of Joy Division’s most famous tracks the production is a tale of love, passion, progress, grief and, of course, music.

New Dawn Fades is at City Varieties Music Hall on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th April
