If you’re someone who’s moved home – or even countries – a few times, check out choreographer Didy Veldman’s brand new contemporary dance production, @HOME, on November 17th at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre at Northern Ballet www.northernballet.com .
Didy Veldman grew up in the Netherlands in a unified Europe and performed all over the world as a ballet dancer with Rambert before turning to full-time choreography. While she now lives in post-Brexit London, she was inspired, during one of several Covid-lockdowns, to contemplate exactly what ‘home’ means – and, as a result, has put her thoughts into this very watchable new dance production.
She says: “I’m fascinated by globalisation: we have – or should I say had – fluid borders; we can work or live in any number of different countries but where do we call home? I think @HOME will resonate with audiences everywhere, especially in the face of seismic challenges the world has been facing over the last 18 months.”
Didy’s company, Humanoove, features five fantastic dancers at the top of their game and an original soundtrack by Sabio Janiak.
