Trinity Leeds is gearing up to host a wide range of musical, artistic and sporting events to celebrate International Women’s Day 2016 on Tuesday 8th March.
Running from Tuesday 8th to Saturday 12th March, visitors to Trinity Leeds can stop by the main atrium for an innovative photographic exhibition. Entitled Women in Music, the exhibition will showcase the work of photographers Emily Docherty and Gemma Lake, whose work challenges the stereotypical perceptions of women in the music industry.
Kicking off the exhibition, Trinity Kitchen will also come alive with a number of musical, artistic and sporting activities for all to enjoy. Running from 4-6pm on Tuesday, other activities include; a ladies boxing session, yoga & pilates classes, a ping-pong tournament as well as a group jog around the city. A talk will be given at the end of the day with inspiring talks from two divers; Olympic athlete Rebecca Gallantree and Rio 2016 hopeful Alicia Blagg. The speakers will focus their talks on the barriers to participation that women can often face in sport.
To tie in with the theme of the photographic exhibition, there will also be live music performances in the centre on Tuesday 8th from artists such as Christella Litras, Marion Zubryzcki, Cherie Johnson, Hannah Trigwell, Michelle Scally Clarke and Tila & Tavelah.
All activities are free of charge, however, the event’s organisers, Getaway Girls, will be on hand for any donations to the charity. The charity enables young women aged 11-25 from Leeds to build confidence, develop new skills and take positive risks in a cooperative and supportive environment.
