BEER AND BRATWURST AT OKTOBERFEST

The Bavarian festival of beer drinking and bratwurst hits Leeds, as Yorkshire’s biggest Oktoberfest event returns for its fourth year.

With most of the first weekend (10-12th October) already sold-out, organisers announced an extra weekend (18th-19th October) of biers, bratwursts and brezel to meet revellers demand. Over 14,000 bier fans will be flocking to the South Bank and raising their steins of first-rate German beers, provided by Ayinger Brewery, a multi-award winning Bavarian beer, situation just 25km outside the capital of Bavaria, Munich.

This years’ event will be taking place at the brand new Temple Arches, a new blank canvas space in South Bank which will host the Bavarian big top tent, kitted out in Oktoberfest decor. The beer festival is one of the first events to take place in the exciting new venue.

Mirroring the famous German festival which originated in 1811 in Munich, Oktoberfest Leeds has more than doubled in size since its 2016 debut, which saw 6,000 people passing through the doors of The Tetley. Demand then forced it to relocate to the South Bank Depot on Globe Street.

In true Oktoberfest style, a Lederhosen-clad Oompah band, Bavarian Strollers, will be providing the party with Bavarian classics and sing-along hits. Wine, prosecco and soft drinks will also be readily available for those who love Bavaria but not beers.
