Leeds International Concert Season invites you and your nearest and dearest to celebrate Christmas at the annual family carol concerts at Leeds Town Hall on Thursday 20 December.
The 2018 Lord Mayor’s Carol Concerts will be introduced and conducted by City Organist Emeritus Simon Lindley, who is joined on stage by the well-loved Rothwell Temperance Brass Band and Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, and organist Alan Horsey.
Come prepared to sing festive carols including Hark! the herald-angels sing, Silent night and Once in Royal David’s City. Then sit back and enjoy the sound of The Rothwell Temperance Brass Band, as they perform musical treats such as Christmas classic It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Martin Thomas’s Cool Yule, and Leeds Philharmonic Chorus sings music from Handel’s Messiah.
The present Rothwell Temperance Brass Band was formed in 1984. Five years later it began contesting and quickly made a name for itself winning the 2006 International Masters and the 2009 Grand Shield and Yorkshire Area Championship. The band is now one of the most recognised and accomplished bands in the area.
The Leeds Philharmonic Chorus is a hundred-strong choir that often performs as part of Leeds International Concert Season, and is directed in performances by David Hill, one of the UK’s leading choral conductors.
After the concert there will be a collection for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal. Councillor Graham Latty is the 125th person to hold the Office of Lord Mayor of Leeds, and has chosen St Gemma’s Hospice as his charity, an organisation that has worked with the community of Leeds for 40 years to ensure that when local people face the end of life, it can be pain-free, dignified and peaceful.
This annual concert is a festive favourite in Leeds so book early to avoid disappointment. There are two chances to join in the fun, with performances at 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursday 20 December. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 0113 376 0318
