Leeds Philharmonic Chorus joins forces with the world’s most famous brass band, Black Dyke Band, to perform a rare arrangement of Handel’s Messiah at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday 8 December.

Handel’s Messiah remains the composer’s most famous work which tells the story of Jesus’ birth, life, death and final victory over sin and death. Renowned British choral conductor David Hill conducts Messiah once again with Leeds Philharmonic Chorus.

The impressive solo arias are brought to life by soloists soprano Fflur Wyn, mezzo soprano Caitlin Hulcup, tenor Joshua Ellicott and baritone Nicholas Mogg. In this work Handel intersperses the astounding solo arias with compelling choral numbers performed in this concert by Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, an ensemble which regularly performs to professional standards with internationally renowned soloists, orchestras and conductors. Members of choirs from Dortmund (Leeds’ twin city) and Halifax Choral Society also join the singers on stage.

Handel’s well-known oratorio is transformed for a rare performance as a brass band arrangement, and is performed by the renowned Black Dyke Band. The band has always been at the forefront of brass band activity, most recently winning the 2018 Yorkshire Regional Championship, a title which it has claimed twenty two times.
