Opera North’s massed musical forces prepare to come together for a specially commissioned work in commemoration of the centenary of the Armistice, to be performed at Leeds Town Hall on Saurday 1 December.

Former Music Director of Opera North, Richard Farnes returns to the helm of the Orchestra to present the second-ever performance of Will Todd’s Songs of Love and Battle.

The orchestra also performs Górecki’s Symphony No 3 (Sorrowful Songs), which picks up the themes of loss and separation caused by conflict using three Polish texts. The first and third texts are written from the perspective of a mother who has lost a child, whilst the middle text is taken from a message written on the wall of a Gestapo cell during World War II, written by a child separated from her parents.

Also taking to the stage are soloists soprano Fflur Wynn and baritone Johnny Herford.

Tickets are available from the Box Office on 0113 376 0318
