Dust off your SNES, N64 and boot up your Playstation, a musical adventure awaits in a thrilling night of orchestral music featuring The British Paraorchestra, who perform classical repertoire and contemporary masterpieces mixed with memorable computer game soundtracks at Leeds Town Hall on Tuesday 20 March.
Taking in giants of the composing world – including the likes of Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Dvořák – the programme mixes with memorable soundtracks from the gaming world, including the high-octane pursuit of Grand Theft Auto, the beloved theme to Tetris, and the colourful music from Sonic the Hedgehog.
Brtish conductor Charles Hazlewood occupies a unique position in musical life. His fresh performances of classical music across genres break new ground and excite audiences across the globe. After winning the European Broadcasting Union conducting competition in his twenties, he has enjoyed a global and pioneering career conducting some of the world’s greatest orchestras.
In 2012 The British Paraorchestra, the world’s first orchestra of musicians with a disability, was formed by Hazlewood to play at the Closing Ceremony of the London Paralympics. It has since gone on to enjoy phenomenal success playing major concerts including at Glastonbury and Buckingham Palace. Playing with them is Army of Generals – comprising some of Britain’s finest period instrumentalists, a cornerstone of Hazlewood’s collaborations, the ensemble is famed for its energy-fuelled performances.
