Thrills, spills, heartache and adventure will be summoned by the Orchestra of Opera North in a blockbuster celebration of the art of the film soundtrack, From Hollywood with Love at Leeds Town Hall on Sunday 4 February.

Writer, broadcaster and all-round film buff Andrew Collins will host the concert, leading the way from the dashing scores of Erich Wolfgang Korngold – a prodigy championed by Strauss and Puccini who went on to lay the blueprint for the movie soundtrack in Hollywood’s Golden Age– to John Williams’ thunderous Star Wars and Superman themes from the late-20th century.

Swedish conductor and Opera North favourite Tobias Ringborg rejoins the Orchestra on the podium, with celebrated pianist Ian Buckle along for the white-knuckle ride.

Film Editor of theRadio Times, presenter of Classic FM’s Saturday Night at the Movies, and an irrepressible fan of cinema of all kinds, Andrew Collins is looking forward to guiding audiences through almost a century of symphonic music on the edge of its seat.

The Orchestra of Opera North boasts plenty of experience in performing film soundtracks with all the precision and power they demand. Last year the ensemble played the original score to Fritz Lang’s classic Metropolis at a screening in the Howard Assembly Room, and Alan Silvestri’s epic score for Back to the Future to a capacity crowd in Leeds’ Millennium Square. Joined by Grimethorpe Colliery Band, they will return to the Square to perform the live soundtrack for Brassed Off at this summer’s Opera North in the City festival.
