Iconic singer and performer, Marc Almond performs with some of Leeds’ most talented musicians from Leeds College of Music at Leeds Town Hall on Friday 8 July.
Marc Almond has possessed one of the most compelling voices in popular music for the last 35 years. In this unique concert he celebrates his love of the 20th-century torch songs he grew up listening to and has been inspired by. Accompanied by the Leeds College of Music Contemporary Orchestra and Pop Choir, Marc Almond takes the audience on a journey through these nostalgic and atmospheric songs of lost and unrequited loves.
Marc Almond has sold over 30 million records worldwide and is an icon and influence to a generation of musicians. He was born in Southport in 1957 and after an unsettled childhood of moving to Harrogate, Leeds and back to Southport, of illness and learning difficulties, he finally left school at seventeen with few qualifications. It was at Leeds Polytechnic that he met David Ball and together they formed the internationally successful ‘electro duo’ Soft Cell in 1979. A diverse and acclaimed successful solo career followed with over a dozen albums and a number of solo chart hits including Tears Run Rings, Stories of Johnny, A Lover Spurned and Adored and Explored.
The eclectic artist, recipient of the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award, toured with Jools Holland following the triumph of his award winning Ten Plagues song cycle performances in 2013 and subsequent album release.
Tickets are priced at £39.50, £32.50 and £29.50 and are available from the Box Office on 0113 376 0318
